Get JSON data into Power BI
Spojit takes JSON from an API, a webhook or a file, flattens nested objects and arrays into typed rows, lands them in a database your Power BI model reads, and refreshes the model.

- Flatten JSONaction
- Upsert into MySQLaction
- Refresh Power BIdone
The workflow, step by step
Collect the JSON
Call an API on a schedule with HTTP Requests, receive it on a webhook trigger, or read a JSON file from SFTP or email.
Flatten it
JSON tools flatten nested objects and pick the fields you report on; arrays such as order lines become their own rows linked by an ID.
Type the columns
Dates, numbers and booleans are converted so Power BI does not treat everything as text.
Land the rows
Rows are upserted into MySQL or another source your semantic model reads, keyed on the record ID so re-runs never duplicate.
Refresh Power BI
The Power BI REST API refreshes the model, and the refresh result is checked so failures are reported.
Spojit calls the Power BI REST API with HTTP Requests, authenticated by a Microsoft Entra app registration that has access to your workspace. Data is landed in a source your model reads, for example MySQL through Spojit's built-in connector. There is no pre-built tile: Miraxa builds the requests.
- A Microsoft Entra app registration with access to your Power BI workspace
- A data source your semantic model reads, such as MySQL or Snowflake
Ways to adapt it
- Page through an API that returns results in pages, until every record is loaded.
- Keep history by appending snapshots instead of upserting.
- Load several APIs into the same model on one schedule.
- Alert the team when the API returns fewer records than usual.
Questions, answered
Can Power BI read JSON directly?
Power BI can read some JSON with Power Query, but nested or paged API data is easier to flatten first and land in a database, which also lets several reports share it.
Why not push rows into a Power BI dataset?
Microsoft is retiring push and streaming semantic models, with new ones blocked after October 2027. Landing data in a source the model reads lasts.
Which APIs can it read?
Any HTTP API, with API keys, bearer tokens or basic authentication.
